About the Role

Join the Word Mobile and Word Copilot team in Noida to innovate how users create, edit, and collaborate on documents across multiple platforms including phones, tablets, web, and desktop. This role centers on embedding AI capabilities into Microsoft Word, ranging from foundational word processing features to conversational and agentic writing experiences like mobile-first Copilot integration, contextual rewriting, and multi-turn document refinement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine AI models, prompting methods, retrieval processes, and evaluation frameworks for diverse Word Mobile and Word Copilot scenarios involving document creation, comprehension, editing, and teamwork.
• Engineer grounded experiences leveraging Work IQ signals drawn from documents, meetings, emails, chats, and organizational context, while strictly upholding user permissions, security protocols, compliance, and responsible AI principles.
• Create mobile-focused Copilot functionalities for drafting, rewriting, summarizing, explaining, structuring, and improving content, ensuring precision, reliability, and the integrity of document semantics expected from top-tier word processors.
• Collaborate extensively with product, design, engineering, Microsoft Research, and cross-geographical teams across Word and Microsoft 365 to integrate, monitor, and sustain models and agent capabilities on iOS, Android, web, and desktop platforms.
• Design robust offline and online performance evaluations focusing on quality, relevance, safety, latency, reliability, and user satisfaction; employ thorough problem-solving and debugging techniques to address issues and enhance models and products.
• Leverage customer insights, telemetry data, service monitoring, and experiment outcomes to uncover emerging authoring requirements, validate concepts, and prioritize impactful improvements, especially for mobile workflows.
• Effectively communicate scientific knowledge, contribute to design and framework reviews, nurture team expertise, influence cross-team decisions, and generate reusable assets such as technical documents, patents, or publications when fitting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of applicable experience, OR
• Master’s degree in a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR
• Doctorate in a related discipline with at least 1 year of relevant experience, OR
• Equivalent practical experience.

Additional Requirements

• Must fulfill Microsoft and governmental security screenings, including a mandatory Microsoft Cloud background check at hire and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degrees with extensive professional experience: Bachelor’s with 8+ years, Master’s with 7+ years, Doctorate with 6+ years in statistics, predictive analytics, machine learning or applied research.
• Strong programming expertise in Python and practical experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Experience working on large language models, multimodal AI, retrieval-enhanced systems, or agentic AI applications.
• Proven ability to transition research into stable production services, including experimentation, evaluation, debugging, and optimization.
• Published works or significant industry achievements related to NLP, multimodal AI, human-AI interaction, information retrieval, or machine learning.
• Experience constructing grounded AI systems incorporating enterprise/user-context data, focusing on retrieval accuracy, citation, permission-conscious access, safety, and responsible AI.
• Familiarity with mobile/cross-platform constraints, online experimentation, telemetry analysis, and quality assurance for AI products aimed at end users.
• Demonstrated teamwork, technical leadership, growth mindset, user-centric focus, and dedication to inclusive product development.
