Focused on accelerating hardware innovation, PhysicsX develops next-generation simulation software that integrates deep physics AI across all phases of engineering. The company collaborates with top aerospace, defense, automotive, semiconductor, materials, and energy firms, tackling their most complex engineering hurdles. Headquartered in the UK with offices globally, PhysicsX is broadening its footprint in Singapore by launching a new research team dedicated to creating physical foundation models with customers and partners.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with research scientists, simulation engineers, clients, and partners to develop AI models that solve practical physics and engineering challenges.
- Architect and implement physical foundation models, emphasizing scalable training on large datasets over multi-GPU cloud infrastructure.
- Convert prototypes from research into robust, optimized software, questioning architectural choices to enhance scalability.
- Select and advocate for optimal libraries, frameworks, and tools to advance project success.
- Lead and manage research streams aligned with your expertise and seniority.
- Communicate findings and their implications to teammates and clients, focusing on real-world impact.
- Bridge data science and software engineering to transform research results into reusable libraries, tools, and products.
- Encourage curiosity and initiative within the team and mentoring relationships.
Candidate Profile and Required Expertise
- Passion for building machine learning solutions, including deep learning and probabilistic modeling, tailored for scientific and engineering applications.
- Proven ability to work independently and scope, manage, and deliver diverse projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to quickly identify issues and define effective solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal teams and customers.
- Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, machine learning, applied statistics, math, physics, engineering, software engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in topics such as:
- Scientific computing
- High-performance computing including CPU/GPU cluster environments
- Distributed and parallel model training for large or foundation models
- Preferably over 2 years professional experience in data-driven roles with practical exposure to:
- Scaling and optimizing ML models, training and deploying foundation models at production scale; federated learning experience is advantageous
- Distributed computing frameworks like Spark or Dask and HPC tools such as MPI, OpenMP, CUDA, Triton
- Cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Developing ML pipelines and models using Python with libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, PyTorch, and JAX, especially for deep learning projects
- Systems programming in C/C++ applied to computer vision, geometry processing, or scientific computing tasks
- Solid grasp of software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD), API design, and MLOps
- Containerization and orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Slurm
- Designing and running systematic experimental pipelines and environments
