About PhysicsX
PhysicsX is pioneering a revolution in industrial engineering by integrating physics and AI to transform hardware innovation. Their simulation software stacks empower industries such as aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, materials, energy, and renewables to tackle complex engineering challenges effectively. Headquarters are in the UK with offices in London, New York, Singapore, and the Bay Area.
Role Overview
We seek a practical problem solver with advanced expertise in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and multiphase modeling including particle-laden flows, fluidized beds, and coupled CFD-DEM. You will develop high-fidelity simulation models and integrate AI tools, working closely with clients on-site globally. Strong proficiency in simulation packages such as Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent and DEM codes like EDEM, LIGGGHTS, or Rocky is essential, alongside automation skills in Python. Experience with parametric CAD (NX or CATIA) is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed multi-physics simulation models spanning geometry preparation, meshing, simulation, post-processing, and experimental validation involving single-phase, multiphase, and coupled CFD-DEM systems.
- Develop and validate DEM particle models for granular and particle-laden processes including fluidized beds, pneumatic conveying, and coating applications using suitable contact models and coupling strategies.
- Construct parametric CAD models integrated with automated simulation pipelines to conduct extensive design optimization and design of experiments (DoE).
- Collaborate directly with customers to tackle complex engineering problems by delivering advanced simulation and AI-supported solutions, communicating findings and actionable recommendations effectively.
- Work at the intersection of CAE and data science to generate high-quality simulation data for training machine learning surrogate models, employing smart sampling to optimize computational resources.
- Utilize cloud-based Flux platform and on-premise HPC infrastructure to enhance high-fidelity modeling performance and scalability.
- Continuously refine simulation methodologies and outputs to support the advancement of physics-informed machine learning models and deep learning surrogates.
- Provide project leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, rigor, and growth.
- Travel internationally up to 2–3 weeks quarterly to engage with customers on-site for solution development.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Multiphase CFD expertise including volume of fluid, Euler–Euler, Euler–Lagrange, or mixture modeling approaches.
- Experience with DEM simulation tools such as EDEM, Rocky, or LIGGGHTS for granular and particle-laden system modeling.
- Knowledge of coupled CFD–DEM particle-fluid interaction workflows.
- Competence in heat and mass transfer modeling; additional experience in reacting flows and phase-change phenomena is beneficial.
- Proficiency with at least one major CFD software: Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or Fluent.
- 3 to 5 years of post-graduate industrial experience (non-research), holding a MEng, MSc, or PhD in mechanical, chemical, or process engineering.
- Python programming for scripting and automation of simulation tasks.
- Familiarity with design of experiments, surrogate modeling, and exploring design parameter spaces.
- Parametric CAD modeling experience, preferably using NX or CATIA.
- Excellent communication skills suited to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
