Senior Algorithm Engineer - Location Based Services

About the Role

Join TikTok's Location Based Services (LBS) Platform team, where you will contribute to building a global, high-quality LBS database and delivering performant services that connect TikTok users with nearby merchants and local amenities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of algorithms supporting the in-house creation of Points of Interest (POI) data, covering areas such as data mining, quality assessment, consistency verification, and intelligent review mechanisms.
• Develop core Agent modules encompassing tool invocation planning, memory management, skill orchestration, and information retrieval, ensuring robustness through self-healing features, fallback procedures, and handling of edge cases.
• Construct evaluation frameworks for Agents by establishing success criteria, devising regression testing for non-deterministic outputs, and balancing cost, latency, and quality trade-offs.
• Advance the use of large language models (LLMs) in POI-related applications, including fine-tuning, model compression, knowledge base creation, and retrieval system integration to enhance POI data quality.
• Utilize AI Coding workflows effectively to deliver efficient end-to-end engineering solutions from algorithm conception to deployment.
• Gain deep insights into POI data scenarios, identify practical challenges through data analysis, and persistently refine and optimize algorithms.

Basic Qualifications

• Excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities, with a structured approach to diagnosing complex issues like unexpected model loss or anomalous Agent behavior, avoiding trial-and-error methods.
• Strong system design skills emphasizing not only model accuracy but also system stability, including fallback strategies, fault tolerance, and edge case management.
• Proficient in programming fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms, able to write clean, maintainable, and debuggable code.
• Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge in at least one of these areas: data mining, deep learning, computer vision, large language models, or masked language models.

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience with large language model fine-tuning and preference learning approaches.
• Development background in Agent architectures, including Skill and Memory modules.
• Proven engineering experience with nondeterministic systems like recommendation engines, search systems, or content understanding platforms.
• Competence with AI Coding workflows for delivering cross-domain projects end-to-end.
