School Counsellor (Qualified Applicants)

Role Overview

As a School Counsellor, you will collaborate with school staff, students, parents, external specialists, and community organizations to ensure comprehensive counselling support focused on students' mental health and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a school counselling program incorporating needs assessment, early identification, and referral systems for students experiencing mental health or behavioral challenges.
• Provide expert advice to school leadership on counselling-related matters.
• Offer consultation and design training sessions for staff and parents on mental health topics and frontline support techniques.
• Foster collaboration with external professionals and community agencies.
• Assess and report to school management on student mental health status and the impact of counselling initiatives.
• Design and deliver psycho-educational group sessions on mental health and coping strategies targeted at students.
• Develop or provide access to mental health resources for students, parents, and staff.
• Conduct individual and group counselling sessions for students.
• Engage in conferences with staff, parents, and external parties concerning students under counselling; conduct home visits as necessary.
• Facilitate referrals for students and families to community services or external experts when required.
• Offer direct crisis intervention and follow-up support for students affected by critical incidents.
• Maintain thorough documentation and case consultation records.
• Keep school management regularly informed of counselling progress for students.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Demonstrated passion and aptitude for supporting students at risk.
• Empathy toward students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness of multicultural issues.
• Resourcefulness and resilience in a dynamic environment.
• At least one year of relevant work experience preferred; volunteering or work with children and youth is a plus.
• Holds a counselling qualification recognized by the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) or equivalent.
• Possesses the physical fitness and emotional resilience necessary to engage students safely and effectively.
