This position, based in The Villages, FL, supports municipal sanitation services by ensuring seamless waste collection and disposal operations.
Role Summary
As a Sanitation Worker II, you will be part of a two-person truck team responsible for operating waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently along assigned routes. The role involves alternating between driving the truck and manually collecting waste from residential locations. This work contributes to maintaining community cleanliness and environmental health.
Responsibilities
- Drive garbage trucks on designated routes following schedules and maps.
- Load and collect residential waste by riding the truck’s rear as the pitcher.
- Tag large or bulk items for later scheduled pickups.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after routes to ensure operational readiness.
- Comply with safety protocols for waste handling, vehicle operation, and traffic regulations.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks and refuel trucks as needed.
- Interact professionally and courteously with residents and the public during collection.
- Respond to emergency sanitation duties when required.

This role requires consistent adherence to occupational health and safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with hazardous waste disposal guidelines. The position involves physically demanding tasks under various weather conditions.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) and current Department of Transportation medical card are mandatory.
- At least 2 years of commercial driving experience within the last 5 years; waste industry experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform bending, reaching, climbing, pushing, and pulling during routes.
- Successful completion of background and drug screenings.
- Must wear steel-toed boots daily as protective footwear.
- Ability to follow occupational safety regulations, including OSHA guidelines.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong attention to safety and detail.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary ranges from $41,200 to $58,850, paid hourly based on actual hours worked. Pay varies depending on location, skill set, experience, and relevant education or training.
