Job description
Position Summary
The Room Service Captain is responsible for coordinating team efforts to guarantee exceptional guest service and satisfaction. This includes supervising staff grooming and appearance, and taking corrective measures as needed. The role involves managing opening and closing activities such as preparing supplies and tools, ensuring cleanliness of equipment and areas, and securing premises by locking doors. The Captain also manages storage areas by maintaining organization, enforcing FIFO inventory procedures, and cleanliness standards. Inventory counts and supply requisitions are part of the duties to meet operational needs. Monitoring guest dining rooms for availability, service quality, safety, and guest comfort is essential. Additionally, handling maintenance work orders is required.
Key Responsibilities
The role supports management in all facets of staff management including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, counseling, discipline, motivation, and coaching. The Captain acts as a role model and a first-line contact for the Guarantee of Fair Treatment/Open Door Policy. Compliance with all company and safety regulations is mandatory, including reporting accidents, hazards, and completing safety training and certifications. Maintaining a professional uniform and personal appearance, safeguarding proprietary information, and protecting company assets are fundamental expectations. Welcoming guests warmly and responding to their needs attentively, including assisting those with disabilities, forms part of the guest service excellence. Effective communication using clear, professional language and fostering positive team relationships to achieve common objectives is critical. Identifying and implementing improvements to optimize efficiency, quality, safety, and cost management is encouraged.
Physical and Other Requirements
The job requires reading and visually verifying various information formats. Physical demands include prolonged standing, sitting, or walking throughout shift duration; lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds unaided; performing fine motor tasks; navigating confined or elevated spaces; ascending/descending stairs or ramps; and flexible body movements such as bending and twisting. Additional reasonable duties may be assigned by supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in the field
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience
- No specific license or certification required
