Rolling Stock Engineer

About the Role

Jacobs is looking for a dedicated and experienced Rolling Stock Engineer to join their team in Abu Dhabi. This role involves leading design review and construction supervision activities for rolling stock, including passenger trains, diesel locomotives, freight wagons, and maintenance-of-way equipment, ensuring successful fleet delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate design review efforts with the Client's engineering team to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and railway regulations.
• Engage with rolling stock suppliers and manufacturers to oversee design integration and project interfaces.
• Collaborate with Design & Build contractors and multidisciplinary teams to align rolling stock requirements with infrastructure, signaling, telecommunications, depots, and maintenance facilities.
• Support system and safety assurance activities and identify technical risks with recommended mitigations during design phases.
• Participate in technical workshops, design reviews, and coordination meetings.
• Manage rolling stock manufacturing, testing, delivery, and commissioning phases, including conducting factory and site inspections and witnessing tests.
• Organize and chair progress meetings with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders, monitoring schedules and quality control processes.
• Oversee compliance with contracts, specifications, and standards, facilitating issue resolution and change management.
• Lead the handover process, reviewing documentation, certifications, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare technical and progress reports along with risk assessments for all stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, or related fields.
• Eight to twelve years of hands-on experience in rolling stock engineering within railway, metro, passenger, or freight rail projects.
• Proven track record in design review, manufacturing supervision, testing, commissioning, or construction oversight of rolling stock.
• Experience collaborating with rolling stock manufacturers and suppliers.
• Understanding of railway system integration, interface management, safety assurance, and quality assurance processes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary and international teams.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally to manufacturing and testing sites.
• Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning.
• Knowledge of asset management, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle requirements for rolling stock.
• Professional engineering registration or chartered status is advantageous.
