Job description
About the Role
Join Parsons Corporation as a Roadway Engineer in Riyadh to create and enhance roadway designs from initial concepts through to detailed final designs. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including traffic engineers, civil engineers, ITS specialists, and regulatory stakeholders to address physical and geometric challenges affecting traffic performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop roadway improvements addressing horizontal and vertical geometry, lane configurations, medians, ramps, and intersection enhancements progressing from concept through to final design.
- Translate corridor assessments, traffic studies, and field observations into viable and standards-compliant roadway solutions.
- Perform site inspections assessing existing roadway elements such as pavement, drainage, barriers, signage, markings, utilities, pedestrian facilities, and access conditions to identify constraints.
- Ensure designs comply with Saudi and international roadway design standards relevant to each project phase.
- Prepare engineering documents including conceptual sketches, plan layouts, calculations, quantity estimates, and technical reports.
- Coordinate roadway improvements with associated infrastructure such as traffic signals, ITS equipment, lighting, drainage, utilities, landscaping, and public transport stops.
- Evaluate design alternatives balancing safety, capacity, right-of-way, cost, and constructability.
- Contribute to rapid implementation solutions like quick-win improvements through signage, markings, and minor civil works.
- Review consultant and contractor submissions and provide precise technical feedback related to compliance, safety, and operability.
- Support cost estimating activities including Bill of Quantities inputs, technical specifications, and implementation planning.
- Engage with CADD teams to ensure accurate reflection of approved design revisions on drawings.
- Participate proactively in interdisciplinary design reviews, workshops, and coordination meetings with governing agencies.
- Assist construction phases by responding to technical queries, conducting site inspections, clarifying designs, and resolving field challenges.
- Verify that as-built improvements align with design intent and operational goals.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with focus or significant experience in roadway or highway design.
- Over eight years of progressive expertise in roadway design, highway engineering, or related civil transportation projects.
- Proven capability developing designs through all design stages from concept to finalization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of roadway elements including horizontal/vertical alignment, lane and intersection design, access management, pedestrian accommodations, and roadside safety.
- Familiarity with drainage, utilities, pavement, barriers, lighting, and other infrastructure interfaces impacting roadway projects.
- Proficiency with professional roadway design and CAD software such as Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroStation, or AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret traffic engineering analyses to inform geometric design solutions.
- Experience applying applicable roadway design standards and generating related calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong practical field judgment to devise constructible solutions in complex urban settings.
- Effective written and oral communication skills in English and aptitude for teamwork in multidisciplinary environments.
Preferred Skills and Additional Attributes
- Previous experience working on roadway projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, or the Gulf Cooperation Council region.
- Knowledge of Saudi Arabia’s highway and urban road design specifications and regulatory requirements (RCRC, MOT, MOMRAH).
- Experience implementing traffic management enhancements, corridor upgrades, intersection improvements, and congestion relief initiatives.
- Exposure to construction stage design reviews and field resolution of issues on operational urban roads.
- Professional engineering licenses such as PE or CEng are advantageous.
- Arabic language skills are beneficial but not mandatory.
