River Engineer/Analyst

About the Role

Join WSP's Christchurch Water team and contribute to significant projects that aid communities in adapting to evolving river conditions, floods, and climate threats throughout Aotearoa. Collaborate with leading experts in river management, flood resilience, and related fields to enhance community safety, environmental protection, and sustainable water governance.

Key Responsibilities

Support and lead investigations, feasibility analyses, hydraulic modeling, flood and erosion evaluations, river management planning, and prepare detailed technical reports. Grow into responsibilities involving project planning leadership, technical reviews, and mentoring junior team members. Work closely with clients and cross-disciplinary teams to foster strong partnerships and ensure the successful completion of projects. Contribute to business development efforts by assisting in proposal preparations and strengthening professional connections within the national Water team.

Candidate Profile

Ideal applicants hold a BE, BSc, or equivalent in Physical Geography, Geology (geomorphology focused), Natural Resources Engineering, or related fields. They possess at least five years’ professional experience in river engineering, river science, flood risk management, hydraulic modeling, or a similar discipline. Candidates are adept at understanding river phenomena and applying insights to research, assessments, and design efforts.

Individuals should be working towards or have achieved Chartered status with CPEng, CIWEM, or an equivalent professional body. They demonstrate confidence in producing and reviewing technical models, plans, calculations, and reports, underpinned by sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of pertinent technical standards, legislation, and NZ standards. Effective communication skills are essential, including client engagement, meeting facilitation, and the ability to deliver technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders. A current clean driver's license and willingness to travel as necessary are required.
