Resident Archaeologist - Dublin

Role Overview

Join WSP's Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team, one of the largest heritage consultancies operating across the UK and Ireland. As a Resident Archaeologist, you will be based in designated MetroLink offices and responsible for on-site supervision and coordination of Light Rail projects, including MetroLink, within the Dublin region. The position requires attendance five days a week and occasional weekend and night site work.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the TII assigned Project Archaeologist in managing Light Rail projects.
• Oversee on-site activities, maintain coordination and detailed records for excavation works and heritage assessments.
• Review method statements, progress and excavation reports, and related cultural heritage documentation.
• Evaluate CVs of proposed staff changes to ensure archaeological compliance.
• Maintain a comprehensive diary detailing archaeological operations and noteworthy events on-site and during post-excavation phases.
• Ensure detailed documentation, including photographic records, of all works progress are available for review.
• Approve and document daily work records and any deviations prior to implementation.
• Record information on delays, disputes, physical site conditions, and conflicts with subcontractors or landowners.
• Participate in and document minutes of site meetings, sharing relevant information with other supervisory staff.
• Support the administration of archaeological contracts.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Archaeology (Level 8 NFQ) with at least 10 years of relevant post-graduate experience, or Level 9 NFQ with minimum 5 years.
• Experience working on Archaeological Code of Practice projects at a senior level such as Site Director or Project Archaeologist.
• Proven track record in managing archaeological excavations and post-excavation tasks for large developments.
• Knowledge of urban and rural archaeology in Ireland and relevant heritage legislation for TII projects.
• Experience preparing archaeological licence applications and heritage impact assessments.
• Possession of a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits.

Work Conditions and Additional Information

The role involves working from MetroLink offices and travel to various sites within the Dublin area, including occasional night and weekend shifts. The team operates within a multi-disciplinary environment working on high-profile infrastructure projects.
