Job Overview

The Remediation Technician is responsible for performing field remediation and drop-bury tasks to support Alaska Communications' service offerings. This position involves burying ground-laid copper and fiber cables, restoring lawns and minor landscaping affected by the work, and ensuring all tasks are conducted safely, professionally, and adhere to company standards. The role requires working outdoors across diverse terrains and weather, utilizing light power and manual tools, and coordinating with customers, field teams, and supervisors to safeguard existing utilities, reduce property disruption, and maintain tidy job sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Install buried copper and fiber drops following approved procedures, routes, and depths, inspecting work orders, site conditions, cable pathways, and utility location markings before starting to protect utilities, client properties, and infrastructure.
• Restore lawns and perform minor landscaping after drop-bury or cable entrance work, including backfilling trenches, leveling, reseeding or restoring disturbed areas, removing debris, and cleaning up the jobsite.
• Operate and maintain light power and manual tools such as post hole diggers, pruning shears, shovels, trenching devices, weed trimmers, and chainsaws; regularly inspect equipment and report any repair or replacement needs.
• Adhere strictly to company safety protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, traffic and pedestrian safety measures, and established field procedures while engaging in physically demanding outdoor tasks involving digging, trenching, lifting, bending, kneeling, and walking over uneven ground under various weather conditions.
• Interact professionally with customers, property owners, supervisors, and field staff to discuss work scope, site access, conditions, job progress, safety concerns, unmarked utilities, property issues, and any matters requiring supervisor input.
• Complete precise and accurate job documentation including photographs when needed, details of work performed, materials used, restoration activities, access challenges, follow-up requirements, and any other related remediation or property restoration information as assigned.

Compensation

The salary for this position ranges from $45.31 to $51.03 hourly.
