About the Role

At Alaska Communications, we prioritize our team members, focusing on customer satisfaction, a proactive approach, accountability, and integrity in all we do. We are seeking a Remediation Technician to perform field remediation and drop-bury tasks that support our services. This role involves installing and burying copper and fiber cables underground, restoring lawns and minor landscaping, and ensuring work is completed safely and professionally according to company standards. The technician will work outdoors across diverse terrains and weather, utilize light power and manual tools, and coordinate efficiently with customers, field teams, and supervisors to safeguard utilities and minimize property impact.

Key Duties

  • Install and bury ground-laid copper and fiber drops using approved procedures, carefully evaluating work orders, site conditions, cable routes, and locating utility marks to prevent damage to utilities and property.
  • Restore lawns and perform minor landscaping after cable installations, including backfilling trenches, leveling terrain, reseeding or patching disturbed areas, removing debris, and cleaning the worksite.
  • Operate and maintain light power and manual tools, such as post hole diggers, pruning shears, shovels, manual trenchers, weed trimmers, and chainsaws; conduct equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols including personal protective equipment (PPE), traffic and pedestrian safety, while engaging in physical activities such as digging, trenching, lifting, bending, kneeling, and traversing uneven ground in various weather conditions.
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with customers, supervisors, and team members about work scope, site access, job progress, safety issues, unmarked utilities, property concerns, and other relevant matters requiring supervisor attention.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, including photos when needed, detailing the work performed, materials utilized, restoration accomplished, access difficulties, and any follow-up actions.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong focus on safety and awareness of field hazards, with responsible use of tools and equipment.
  • Proficiency in handling light power and manual tools relevant to digging, trimming, trenching, cutting, and restoration.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure precise cable installation, site cleanup, and thorough documentation.
  • Professional and respectful treatment of customers, property owners, and job sites, striving to minimize disruptions.
  • Dependability in completing tasks timely, following instructions, and clearly communicating any field challenges.
