The Remediation Technician position is tasked with field remediation and drop-bury operations supporting Alaska Communications' services. Responsibilities include burying copper and fiberoptic cable drops laid on the ground, restoring lawns and minor landscaping affected by the work, and doing so safely and in line with company standards. Work involves outdoor physical labor across varied terrains and weather conditions, use of light power and manual tools, and coordination with customers, supervisors, and field teams to safeguard utilities, minimize disruption to property, and ensure thorough site cleanup.

Key Responsibilities

• Bury ground-laid copper and fiber drops following approved methods, routes, and appropriate depths. Review work orders, evaluate site conditions, cable paths, and locate markings prior to performing work to protect utilities, customer property, and company assets.
• Restore lawns and perform minor landscaping tasks post drop-bury or entrance cable work, including backfilling trenches, leveling surfaces, reseeding or replacing disturbed areas as needed, removing debris, and leaving the jobsite clean.
• Operate and maintain light power tools and manual tools such as post hole diggers, pruning shears, shovels, trenching devices, weed trimmers, and chainsaws. Regularly inspect equipment and report any maintenance or replacement requirements.
• Adhere strictly to company safety protocols, mandatory PPE use, and traffic and pedestrian safety rules while engaging in outdoor physical activities including digging, trenching, lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, and navigating uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
• Engage professionally with customers, property owners, supervisors, and field staff to communicate work scope, access requirements, site conditions, job progress, potential hazards such as unmarked utilities, property concerns, or any issues necessitating supervisor involvement.
• Complete all required documentation meticulously, including photographic evidence, records of work done, materials utilized, restoration efforts, access limitations, and follow-up needs related to remediation, drop-bury, or property restoration tasks.

Required Competencies

• Strong safety awareness, practicing safe work habits, hazard recognition, and responsible tool and equipment usage.
• Proficient practical skills with light power and manual tools essential for digging, trimming, trenching, cutting, and restoration processes.
• High attention to detail ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in cable burial, site restoration, cleanup, and documentation.
• Respectful and professional conduct toward customers, property owners, and worksites with a focus on minimizing disruptions.
• Dependability demonstrated through reliable work performance, adherence to instructions, timely completion of assignments, and prompt communication of field issues.

Additional Information

This role offers a compensation range from $25.00 to $29.00 per hour. Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. as remote international candidates and those requiring visa sponsorship are not supported.
