Registrar – Cardiology

Job Summary

The Cardiology Registrar plays a crucial role in providing superior cardiovascular care to patients, operating under guidance from the Consultant Cardiologist. This position integrates clinical skills, adherence to evidence-based protocols, and cooperative multidisciplinary efforts to effectively evaluate, diagnose, manage, and follow up on cardiovascular patients. It also involves contributing to clinical quality improvements and patient safety in both in-person and virtual clinical settings while fostering professional growth.

Primary Duties

• Perform thorough cardiovascular assessments, taking detailed patient histories, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing diagnostic tests.
• Utilize diagnostic modalities such as ECGs, echocardiograms, and stress tests for precise patient diagnosis.
• Engage patients to understand symptoms, medical backgrounds, risk factors, and lifestyle influences.
• Promptly refer complex or high-risk cases to the supervising Consultant Cardiologist.
• Ensure precise and timely clinical documentation within the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
• Design and apply patient-specific, evidence-supported treatment plans.
• Work collaboratively with patients to set feasible treatment objectives.
• Track patient outcomes and adjust therapeutic approaches as needed based on clinical changes.
• Manage medication regimes responsibly and provide patient education regarding pharmacotherapy.
• Coordinate referrals to specialized care when necessary.
• Follow clinical protocols and best practice guidelines rigorously in cardiology.
• Engage in quality assurance processes, including audits and peer reviews.
• Report and investigate any clinical incidents or adverse events.
• Support adherence to regulatory and institutional standards to uphold quality.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions concerning complex cases and patient care coordination.
• Maintain clear communication with nursing, allied health professionals, and other specialties.
• Ensure smooth transitions of care through liaison with external experts and community services.
• Promote patient safety initiatives within cardiology units.
• Educate patients and their families on cardiovascular conditions, treatments, and preventive measures.
• Address patient inquiries and concerns with empathy and clarity.
• Collect and utilize patient feedback to improve service quality.
• Stay committed to ongoing medical education and professional development activities.
• Keep abreast of advances in cardiology, telemedicine, and current best practices.
• Maintain active professional registration with SCFHS and meet all licensing requirements.
• Guide and mentor junior healthcare staff to support their clinical development.
