CSSD Technician

Job Overview

The CSSD Technician is responsible for the sterilization of reusable medical instruments, ensuring a safe and monitored environment adhering to strict protocols within the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). This includes managing biohazard materials and following manufacturer recommendations for re-sterilization and reuse.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sterilization processes, including verifying sterilizer operation, time, temperature settings, and use of biological indicators.
• Maintain a clean, safe CSSD environment using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety measures against biohazards, steam, and gas.
• Inspect trays and instruments upon receipt in the decontamination area and use evidence-based practices to maintain sterilization standards.
• Remove visible dirt and microorganisms, eliminating environments conducive to microbial survival.
• Maintain detailed monitoring reports and ensure sterilization validation through physical, chemical, and biological indicators using appropriate sterilization methods like pressurized steam or plasma.
• Assemble instrument sets and procedural trays, selecting suitable packaging materials to ensure the sterility and integrity of instruments until use.
• Manage collection and transport of soiled instruments in appropriate containers and trolleys for reprocessing.
• Adhere strictly to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections and identify safety hazards, reporting any defective equipment, incidents, or injuries.
• Engage in continuous professional development through educational activities, maintaining certifications and serving as a preceptor for new staff.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, comply with organizational policies, and assist the Head Nurse with additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited CSSD program, preferably Saudi-based.
• Hold a current and valid SCFHS nursing license.
• Have at least 2 years of experience, preferably within a tertiary care environment.
