Role Summary

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Operating Theatre Nurse delivers assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for surgical patients following evidence-based clinical guidelines, organizational protocols, and regulatory compliance. The role encompasses providing safe perioperative nursing support during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases with a collaborative approach alongside surgical teams to maximize patient safety and outcomes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop individualized nursing care plans and deliver clinical care for patients undergoing surgery consistent with best practices and institutional policies.
• Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing across all surgical stages, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
• Maintain optimal operating theatre conditions, ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are ready, functional, and safely utilized.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary medical teams to deliver quality surgical care and optimize recovery.
• Observe, document, and communicate patients’ clinical status, nursing interventions, and treatment responses, escalating any concerns promptly.
• Adhere strictly to infection control protocols, surgical safety measures, quality benchmarks, and comply with DOH/DHA regulations.
• Foster a patient safety culture by participating in audits, continuous education, and evidence-based practice initiatives aimed at quality improvement.
• Serve as a role model in professional conduct by supporting teamwork, mentoring juniors, and stimulating a patient-focused care environment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and a current valid Registered Nurse license in the practicing country.
• A minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience post-qualification, including recent exposure to operating theatre or perioperative services covering diverse surgical specialties.
• Possession of DOH/DHA nursing licensure eligibility and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Perioperative Nursing certifications are advantageous.
• Comprehensive understanding of perioperative nursing protocols, infection control measures, surgical safety processes, patient evaluation, and collaboration within acute healthcare settings.
