Role Overview

The Registered Nurse for IVF plays a vital role in preparing and supporting patients throughout the in-vitro fertilization process. Key duties include assisting with ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and administering fertility medications. The nurse also educates patients and families on treatments, monitors health and medication effects, and coordinates clinical procedures and appointments.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for IVF interventions and monitor ovarian stimulation and embryo transfer.
• Educate patients about the IVF process, including pre- and post-procedure care guidelines.
• Administer prescribed hormone injections and oral fertility treatments, observing for adverse effects.
• Conduct health assessments including vital signs and symptom monitoring during treatment phases.
• Assist with IVF lab procedures, ensuring compliance with protocols and patient comfort handling specimens.
• Offer emotional support addressing anxieties related to fertility treatments.
• Maintain precise patient records covering treatment plans, medication logs, and outcomes.
• Schedule and coordinate consultations, procedures, and follow-ups.
• Work collaboratively with reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists, and technical staff to optimize patient care.
• Ensure infection control standards are strictly upheld and handle medications and samples properly.
• Comply with regulatory and ethical guidelines to protect patient confidentiality and treatment integrity.
• Keep abreast of advancements in reproductive health, participating in ongoing education and quality improvement.
• Manage patient admissions and discharges effectively within the IVF unit.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

• Valid nursing license from country of origin and regional health authority certification (e.g. SCFHS, DHA).
• Certifications including BLS, ACLS, and relevant life support courses.
