Role Overview
As a senior member of the commercial team reporting to the General Manager – Commercial, the Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for cost management throughout multiple projects, from planning to final accounts, contributing hands-on expertise and mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimate, negotiate, and process contract variations while maintaining precise records of tenders, quotes, and estimates.
- Oversee cost control measures, manage budgets and cash flow, and monitor actual costs against quotations, providing variance reports.
- Prepare and negotiate monthly progress claims and valuations.
- Build and nurture relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, including handling procurement and account management.
- Participate in project evaluations and suggest improvements for performance.
- Mentor and quality-check work of junior commercial and quantity surveying personnel.
- Attend site and client meetings as needed.
Candidate Profile
- At least five years of commercial or quantity surveying experience within construction, whether working for main contractors or subcontractors, or equivalent combination of tertiary qualifications and experience.
- Well-versed in NZS3910/NZS3916 contract standards and familiar with the Construction Contracts Act.
- Demonstrated ability managing cost plans, progress claims, variations, final accounts, and subcontractor/supplier accounts comprehensively.
- Exceptional accuracy and capacity to manage multiple projects effectively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capability in mentoring and communicating within teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Jobpac Connect is advantageous.
