Quantity Surveyor

Role Summary

This position entails ensuring projects are delivered successfully from a financial perspective, safeguarding the Company's exposure to fiscal risks, and complying with established commercial processes. The role is based in our Manchester office, which is currently growing, and involves managing commercial aspects of diverse projects ranging from £100,000 up to £4 million in value.

Key Duties

• Agree interim payment amounts with clients, track payment notice deadlines and receipt status.
• Lead final account negotiations.
• Collaborate with the Sales team and Project Managers to prepare project budgets as needed.
• Conduct monthly monitoring of budgets versus costs and forecasts, reporting to upper management.
• Provide support in resolving complex subcontractor final accounts.
• Ensure contractual obligations are fully met.
• Coordinate with project teams and Directors on commercial issues such as variations and delays, ensuring all are documented.
• Assist in drafting contractual notices with Project Managers and Directors.
• Participate in site inspections to monitor variations and quality, preparing accurate site records to meet client requirements.
• Attend client meetings when necessary.
• Contribute to reviewing and advising on tender terms and conditions in collaboration with the Sales team.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and colleagues.
• Mentor junior team members when required.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Experience in a commercial role within the fire protection or building services sector is mandatory.
• Sound understanding of standard contract forms.
• Proficient with cost control methods and relevant software applications.
• Knowledge of dispute resolution procedures and practical experience handling disputes.
• Competent in preparing precise monthly cost and value reports.
• Skilled negotiator with clients and subcontractors.
• Experience managing final accounts.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with close attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and negotiation abilities.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Familiarity with MS Project, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Possession of a Quantity Surveying degree or actively pursuing one is preferable.
• Understanding of construction methods, materials, and fire engineering regulations is an advantage.
