Job description
Overview
Susquehanna International Group leads by leveraging data as a key advantage in trading. The European Quantitative Engineering and Data (QED) team, expanding rapidly in Dublin with colleagues across London and worldwide, builds powerful algorithms, datasets, and platforms that drive revenue generation. This team blends engineering, operations, and research to create scalable, high-throughput systems that empower traders and researchers.
Role Description
The Quantitative Data Operations Engineer will be integral to the trading and research infrastructure, collaborating closely with traders, researchers, and engineers to ensure data platform operations align with business objectives. Far from a passive support position, the role requires substantial scripting and coding to maintain and refine production data workflows. Given the dynamic and evolving nature of these platforms, the engineer must adeptly handle uncertainty, provide valuable feedback to engineering teams, and contribute toward continuous system enhancement.
Core Responsibilities
- Operate essential research data systems utilized daily by traders and quantitative analysts, including Airflow and specialized proprietary platforms.
- Monitor and maintain data systems across US and EMEA regions, ensuring their readiness in a follow-the-sun operational model.
- Manage orchestration of complex data pipelines and associated dependencies such as compute clusters, storage solutions, configuration, and data locality considerations.
- Act as the primary contact point for researchers and traders to resolve issues quickly and support business agility.
- Participate in a shift rota involving early and late shifts plus an on-call rotation to provide continuous support.
- Leverage AI tools and intelligent agents to automate repetitive tasks, enabling focus on strategic system improvements.
- Advocate and implement best practices to guarantee system changes are reliable, efficient, and consistent across global operations.
- Lead incident post-mortems and follow up on actionable insights to prevent recurrence.
Candidate Requirements
- A degree in a STEM-related field.
- Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python and Bash.
- Familiarity with orchestration frameworks like Airflow is desirable.
- Comfortable working in Linux-based environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for removing obstacles and enhancing system capabilities.
- Capability to manage immediate operational demands alongside strategic architectural enhancements.
- Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and attention to detail.
- Interest in quantitative trading and financial markets is a plus.
