Job description
Position Overview
The Purchasing Agent role requires managing all facets of inventory tracking, food cost calculations, and vendor interactions to support efficient procurement operations at Marriott International's Kampala location. Emphasis is placed on maintaining accurate records, reconciling shipments, and adhering to food safety standards while contributing positively to a team-oriented environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Calculate inventory figures relating to food, orders, and associated expenses.
- Keep detailed, organized records and files of reports and invoices digitally and physically.
- Enter invoices using relevant computerized systems for accuracy and tracking.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits to assess current stock levels and consumption needs.
- Prepare requisition forms for replenishing inventory and supplies, notifying supervisors upon low stock detection.
- Verify newly received stock against shipment records and ensure inventory logs are updated precisely.
- Reconcile shipping invoices with receiving reports to confirm shipment accuracy.
- Handle the receiving, unloading, and processing of deliveries, rejecting any damaged or incorrect items.
- Address vendor-related delivery problems and manage the return workflow as required.
- Comply fully with food safety and hygiene protocols in all relevant operations.
Additional Operational Responsibilities
- Immediately report workplace incidents such as accidents, injuries, or hazardous conditions to management.
- Complete all mandatory safety training and certification programs.
- Adhere to internal policies including professional dress codes, confidentiality, company asset protection, and communication standards.
- Engage professionally with colleagues and clients through clear verbal and written communication.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships within the team to support shared objectives.
- Meet quality assurance standards consistently during daily operations.
- Perform physical tasks including extended standing, walking, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds, as well as navigating confined or uneven spaces.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Minimum education level: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- At least one year of relevant work experience in a procurement or inventory management role.
- No supervisory experience required.
- Holding any professional licenses or certifications is not mandatory.
