Job description

Role Overview

The Queensland Police Service is seeking a qualified Prosecutor to deliver expert prosecution services, offering sound legal advice to Service members concerning cases before the Magistrates, Children's, and Coroners Courts. The position is based within the Townsville Police Prosecution Corps, a sizable unit comprising over thirty sworn and civilian prosecutors backed by administrative staff.

This role involves handling police-related cases across the Townsville Magistrates Court District, including specialized courts such as the Domestic and Family Violence Court and High Risk Youth Court, in addition to Magistrates Courts situated in Ayr, Ingham, Charters Towers, Palm Island, Hughenden, and Richmond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide prosecution services within the specified jurisdiction.
  • Act as a representative of the Queensland Police Service and its members in judicial and legal proceedings before Magistrates, Children's, and Coroners Courts.
  • Dispense legal counsel related to court procedures and processes within the area of responsibility.
  • Oversee the preparation and quality of police briefs of evidence to uphold the highest standards.
  • Engage effectively and collaborate with Queensland Police Service personnel, legal professionals, government bodies, and the community to facilitate strong partnerships and positive policing results.
  • Recognize external factors influencing the work environment and contribute proactively to legal research, argumentation, submissions, advisory opinions, and advice formulation.
  • Uphold and model exemplary performance standards and ethical conduct in professional duties.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Admission, eligibility for immediate admission, or entitlement to practice law as a legal practitioner in Queensland.
