Role Overview
This mid-to-senior level Project Manager will oversee complex projects within an R&D environment focusing on technological innovation. The role entails orchestrating cross-functional teams, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring projects achieve defined objectives with high standards of quality. This position significantly influences research advancement and the transition of cutting-edge concepts into practical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage R&D projects from initiation through completion, including planning, resource allocation, execution, tracking, and closure, ensuring deliverables align with quality and target goals.
- Create detailed project plans incorporating schedules, milestones, risk analyses, and contingency measures tailored for R&D challenges.
- Facilitate collaboration among diverse teams of scientists, engineers, and technical experts, fostering an innovative and knowledge-sharing culture.
- Apply recognized project management frameworks (e.g., PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile) to monitor progress and address deviations in scope, timing, or budget.
- Administer project budgets, monitor expenses, and optimize resource use while ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Generate and present regular status updates, documentation, and reports to stakeholders including leadership, sponsors, and partners.
- Identify and mitigate risks promptly to minimize impact on project outcomes.
- Handle procurement, vendor relations, and contract negotiations necessary for successful project delivery.
- Drive continuous improvements by incorporating lessons learned and best practices into ongoing project management processes within R&D.
- Ensure all activities observe relevant safety, ethical, and regulatory requirements pertinent to research and development.
Required Experience and Competencies
- Minimum five years of project management experience, preferably handling complex projects in technology, engineering, scientific, or R&D domains.
- Advanced command of project management methodologies and tools like Microsoft Project, Jira, and Asana.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate diverse stakeholders effectively.
- Strong analytical skills with the capacity to predict challenges and devise innovative solutions in a research-driven context.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder engagement and presentations.
- Experience managing budgets, tracking finances, and optimizing resources for significant projects.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, compliance, and intellectual property issues relevant to R&D.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the aptitude to oversee multiple concurrent projects.
- Leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate teams and foster accountability.
- Adaptable and resilient mindset suited to a dynamic research environment.
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, technology, business administration, or a related discipline is required.
- Master’s degree or advanced qualifications especially in technical/scientific fields are highly valued.
- Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, Agile Certified Practitioner) is strongly preferred.
- Additional expertise or courses in R&D management, innovation, or technology commercialization are beneficial.
- Ongoing commitment to professional growth in project management and leadership is expected.
