Project Manager - Civil Construction

Job Overview

The Project Manager specializing in Civil Works will take charge of comprehensive project oversight including planning, execution, supervision, cost management, quality assurance, and timely delivery of civil construction projects. This role demands managing all personnel involved such as Site Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors, laborers, vendors, and consultants, ensuring adherence to approved designs, bill of quantities (BOQ), specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, budget constraints, and deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

• Devise and track overall project execution strategies, encompassing manpower, materials, machinery, and subcontractor assignments.
• Create weekly and monthly work schedules ensuring all activities comply with approved drawings and timelines.
• Oversee daily site operations, supervise engineering and supervisory staff, subcontractors, and labor forces to maintain discipline, productivity, cleanliness, and organized workflows.
• Utilize in-depth knowledge of civil construction processes such as earthwork, PCC/RCC, foundations, reinforcement, shuttering, masonry, plastering, waterproofing, flooring, doors/windows installation, painting, external development, drainage, roadworks, and repair tasks.
• Maintain rigorous quality control ensuring construction matches specifications; coordinate testing and inspections, promptly address defects, and uphold detailed inspection documentation.
• Monitor BOQ comprehension and quantity measurements, verifying executed volumes, controlling wastage, and collaborating with billing teams on progress and subcontractor payments.
• Exercise financial oversight by tracking expenditure against budgets, curbing wastage and excessive costs, supervising labor/subcontractor productivity, and identifying potential budget deviations early.
• Manage materials by forecasting needs, coordinating procurement and storage, ensuring timely supply and verifying incoming materials for compliance with quality and quantity standards.
• Oversee subcontractor selection, task delegation, performance monitoring, quality verification, billing checks, manpower management, issue resolution, and escalation of concerns to higher management.
• Maintain open and professional communication channels with clients, architects, consultants, attending meetings, clarifying technical requirements, and facilitating inspections and approvals.
• Enforce strict safety measures on site including PPE compliance, safe scaffolding and excavation practices, accident reporting, and regular safety briefings to guarantee secure working conditions.
• Ensure comprehensive documentation and reporting comprising daily, weekly, and monthly progress, labor and material records, quality inspections, tests, drawing registers, RFIs, variations, subcontractor progress, schedules, and meeting minutes.

Project Oversight

Provide continuous monitoring across time, cost, quality, safety, manpower, materials, and productivity. Promptly report anticipated delays, budget overruns, quality issues, or manpower/material shortages alongside corrective action plans.

Team Leadership

Effectively manage personnel including Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, Quantity Surveyors, Safety and Store staff, subcontractors, skilled and unskilled labor, vendors, and suppliers by setting clear daily goals and ensuring target attainment.

Qualifications and Experience

• Preferred: Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Civil Engineering.
• Diploma holders in Civil Engineering with substantial relevant experience may also qualify.
• Experience range: 10–20 years in civil construction projects, preferably involving building, institutional, commercial, residential, educational, or healthcare infrastructure.

Technical Proficiencies

• Expertise in RCC and general civil construction methods.
• Capability to interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
• Proficiency in BOQ analysis and quantity surveying.
• Familiarity with construction materials and concrete/RMC operations.
• Competency in project planning and scheduling techniques.
• Advanced skills in MS Excel; MS Project or Primavera knowledge is advantageous.
• Basic AutoCAD familiarity.
• Strong aptitude for comprehensive documentation and report preparation.

Compensation

The monthly remuneration package offered ranges between INR 25,000 and INR 40,000.
