Project Engineer I

About the Role

Hexagon Autonomous Solutions is looking for a detail-focused Project Engineer to plan, coordinate, and deliver technical projects within the mining systems domain. This role encompasses full project lifecycle management—design, implementation, testing, and handover—while ensuring projects meet deadlines, budgets, and quality benchmarks. The position requires combining engineering expertise with effective project management and problem-solving skills. Communication, organization, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards are also essential.

Scope of Responsibilities

• Possess comprehensive high-level knowledge of mining systems deployment.
• Serve as an escalation point for technical challenges raised by the team, managing issue resolution beyond the scope of other engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure timely and budget-conscious deployment of mining systems.
• Ensure efficient execution of systems and product deployment.

Core Duties

• Lead hands-on deployment of complex mining solutions.
• Support and maintain related software systems.
• Develop customizations tailored to client needs.
• Diagnose and resolve system-related issues.
• Manage and implement customer-specific system configurations.
• Use scripting to perform system customizations.
• Contribute to onsite system installation processes.
• Address complex problems spanning integrated systems.
• Keep relevant parties informed of risks or product-related issues during deployment.
• Escalate critical problems involving other stakeholders, such as Mining Services or support teams.
• Stay updated on current and forthcoming product technologies.
• Maintain awareness of systems support strategies through industry connections and professional groups.
• Provide regular reports on project issues, status, and resolutions.
• Leverage customer relationships to alert Mining Services of potential problems and new opportunities.
• Support sales efforts, including leading technical presentations when necessary.
• Represent Hexagon Mining professionally and courteously at all times.
• Adhere to Hexagon documentation, reporting standards, and organizational processes.
• Comply with workplace health and safety policies, participate in audits, and promote safety for self and others.
• Perform other duties as assigned periodically.

Educational and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or internationally recognized equivalent in Engineering (Computer, Mining, Electrical, Electronic), Computer Science, or related fields.
• Minimum three years of relevant progressive experience within the mining industry or related roles such as software engineer, software consultant, or mining engineer.
• Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in French and Portuguese is considered advantageous.
• Practical experience with Postgres, SQLite, SQL Server, Linux, Linux shell scripting, and Ubuntu.
• Familiarity with working in remote teams is highly desirable.

Additional Information

• The role requires travel locally, nationally, and internationally to client sites.
• A valid driver’s license and passport or appropriate visa are necessary.
