Progressive Maintenance & Utilities Lead

Role Overview

As a member of the Plant Leadership Team (PLT), the Progressive Maintenance & Utilities Lead spearheads the Progressive Maintenance (PM) Pillar within the Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S) framework, aiming to develop a Zero Breakdown Culture at the plant. This role focuses on building maintenance expertise, elevating equipment reliability, optimizing utilities, driving energy efficiency, and instilling world-class maintenance practices throughout the facility.

The emphasis is placed on coaching, capability development, and technical leadership rather than daily maintenance operations.

The lead ensures uninterrupted site manufacturing and support activities, guaranteeing no facility shortages or operational disruptions. They enforce full compliance with local laws, quality, health, safety, and environmental management standards. The oversight includes management and upkeep of site facilities, buildings, and all equipment (both hardware and software).

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate cross-functionally to design and execute a strategic facilities roadmap and annual operating plan, creating competitive advantages for the company. Engage internal and external stakeholders and service providers to meet goals in safety, quality, cost, delivery, sustainability, and engagement. Implement robust governance for operational performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Oversee building and facilities maintenance programs, ensuring capabilities in repairs and operations are established. Enforce adherence to business continuity plans, manufacturing standards, and government regulations, keeping all employees and service providers informed and compliant.
• Provide leadership and coaching to the facilities team on IL6S practices, focusing on zero breakdowns via preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, including PM, condition-based monitoring (CBM), visual controls, lubrication management, and equipment calibration.
• Demonstrate company values through coaching, mentoring, and developing the plant's technical and engineering teams. Plan for succession and resources, and implement initiatives to attract, retain, and grow critical talent.
• Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align priorities with corporate objectives.

Maintenance and Reliability Leadership

• Direct the Progressive Maintenance Pillar to enhance equipment reliability plant-wide.
• Implement and sustain preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance approaches.
• Lead initiatives to eliminate breakdowns and foster continuous improvement.

Capability Development

• Build maintenance expertise within engineering and operations teams.
• Coach technical leaders, bolstering organizational proficiency in maintenance and reliability excellence.
• Support autonomous maintenance practices to facilitate capability transfer.

Reliability and Operational Excellence

• Enhance equipment availability, maintenance effectiveness, and overall operational output.
• Lead root cause analyses and drive enduring corrective measures.
• Improve key reliability indicators such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

Plant Leadership and Governance

• Manage budgets for maintenance and infrastructure.
• Support capital projects, expansions, and equipment investments.
• Offer technical expertise to optimize plant design and asset reliability.
• Lead maintenance, utilities, electrical, instrumentation, and automation functions ensuring dependable plant infrastructure and utility systems.
• Champion modernization, automation, and continuous reliability improvements.

Safety, Compliance, and Sustainability

• Ensure compliance with all safety, statutory, and environmental regulations.
• Promote energy optimization and sustainability programs across the site.
• Advocate safe maintenance procedures and uphold technical governance.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or Industrial Engineering.
• Over 10 years of experience in maintenance, reliability, engineering, or plant technical operations.
• Strong hands-on foundation in maintenance with advancement into leadership roles.
• Experience applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Integrated Lean Six Sigma (IL6S), or comparable operational excellence models.
• Proven success in driving reliability enhancements, building maintenance capabilities, and promoting maintenance excellence in automated manufacturing settings.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, stakeholder engagement, problem-solving, and system-thinking skills.
