Role Overview
We are searching for a distinguished Programme Leader to oversee the GeoNet and Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunami (DART) programmes. This position represents a unique opportunity to helm two pivotal national initiatives that underpin New Zealand's monitoring and response capabilities for natural hazards.
GeoNet and DART are fundamental in providing essential data and insights to inform emergency management, government policy, scientific inquiry, and community preparedness throughout New Zealand and the Pacific. These programmes are crucial in alerting and safeguarding communities during seismic, volcanic, and tsunami events.
In this leadership position, you will operate mainly through influence, uniting scientists, engineers, operations experts, financial sponsors, and government bodies to achieve impactful results. You will be responsible for managing considerable budgets while steering the strategic direction, ongoing innovation, and functional evolution of these programmes to ensure sustained value in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for GeoNet and DART, ensuring delivery on both strategic objectives and contractual commitments.
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to craft and advance long-term strategic plans and investment frameworks.
- Forge and nurture robust relationships with funding bodies, governmental entities, iwi groups, research institutions, and international collaborators.
- Develop persuasive funding proposals and business cases to secure and maintain programme financing.
- Oversee programme governance, managing risks effectively and ensuring strong financial health.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across Earth Sciences New Zealand to achieve outcomes of national significance.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an accomplished programme leader comfortable navigating complex landscapes. You excel at uniting varied groups towards a common mission, possess a well-demonstrated track record of managing large-scale, multi-stakeholder initiatives, and influence senior leadership decisively. While backgrounds in science, infrastructure, technology, emergency or environmental management are desirable, the emphasis lies on outstanding leadership, strategic acumen, and partnership management.
