Position Summary

The Produce Clerk is responsible for sorting, displaying, removing, and restocking fresh fruits and vegetables in the produce section. This role maintains the overall appearance and environment of the department while assisting members by sharing product expertise and providing exceptional customer service. The clerk ensures all produce meets or surpasses company quality standards.

Core Duties and Accountabilities

• Assist members in the produce department by answering questions, recommending products, offering safe handling tips, and guiding them throughout the store.
• Inspect, rotate, and store produce upon arrival, ensuring all items meet or exceed quality standards.
• Regularly rotate floor stock to maintain optimal freshness and variety, keep displays stocked, neat, and clean, and discard unsuitable products.
• Manage the produce storage area by dating, rotating stock, and keeping it organized and condensed daily.
• Follow established protocols for disposing of damaged, spoiled, or expired produce items.
• Support the Fresh Manager with inventory management and order processing as needed.
• Clean and sanitize produce equipment, displays, coolers, and refrigerated cases.
• Create signage for produce items and perform price checks to ensure accuracy.
• Adhere to all club policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties including assisting other departments as required.
• Maintain reliable, regular attendance as a key job function.

Candidate Qualifications

• Prior produce department experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with fruits and vegetables, including seasonal varieties, is desirable.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Work Environment

• Job involves frequent movement on hard surfaces, including bending, climbing, crawling, lifting, reaching, stooping, and handling merchandise.
• Regularly lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds; with assistance, may lift heavier or awkward items above 30 pounds.
• Work primarily indoors with exposure to temperature extremes such as freezers, coolers, and ovens.

Compensation

The estimated starting wage for this role is $16.25 per hour. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, education, experience, and qualifications.
