Principal Solution Architect

About the Role

An established and well-resourced organisation is making significant investments in its technology and engineering capacity. It is currently seeking a Principal Solution Architect to define and steer the architectural strategy for scalable software development across the company.

This senior position has organisation-wide influence, focusing not only on individual solutions but also on setting standards, platforms, and nurturing the engineering culture. The role involves being the chief architectural authority for complex, high-impact projects that span cloud, private cloud, and on-premises environments. Additionally, the architect will be instrumental in enhancing and growing the internal engineering team’s capabilities and maturity.

Responsibilities

• Convert business objectives and executive priorities into comprehensive, multi-year technology and architecture roadmaps.
• Define and uphold organisation-wide architectural principles, reference architectures, and blueprints that cover cloud, private cloud, and on-premises infrastructure.
• Serve as the senior design authority for complex systems, including application architecture, microservices, APIs, integration, and platform services, focusing on scalability, resilience, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Implement engineering standards and governance practices such as architecture and design reviews, code quality benchmarks, and secure SDLC processes that enhance quality without impeding delivery pace.
• Create reusable frameworks, component libraries, CI/CD templates, Infrastructure as Code patterns, and internal developer platforms that speed up delivery for various teams.
• Mentor architects and senior engineers to elevate the organisation’s engineering maturity and capabilities.
• Lead research and development efforts and proofs-of-concept for emerging technologies, integrating successful innovations into practical patterns and platforms.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership regarding architecture decisions, engineering investments, and technology risk management.

Candidate Profile

• Possess over 12 years of experience in solution architecture, software engineering, and leadership roles in technology.
• Proven success in designing and delivering complex, large-scale, or mission-critical systems.
• Comprehensive, hands-on expertise in modern software architectures including cloud-native approaches, microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience in defining architectural principles, engineering standards, and technology governance at an enterprise-wide level.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, DevSecOps, and CI/CD practices across public cloud, private cloud, and/or on-premises settings.
• Background in building reusable frameworks, shared services, developer platforms, and engineering accelerators.
• Strong foundation in security architecture and secure software engineering principles.
• Competence in mentoring senior engineers and architects, driving engineering excellence and maturity within the organisation.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing senior business and technology leaders effectively.
• Academic credentials including a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
