Job Overview

Wood is inviting Expressions of Interest for the role of Principal Project Control Engineer to support its expanding operations in Qatar. This position is based onsite and forms part of a team focused on FEED, Pre-FEED, brownfield, and greenfield projects, primarily in the oil and gas sectors both onshore and offshore.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main contact between clients and contractor Project Controllers to ensure accurate and timely reporting of costs and project progress aligned with reporting standards.
  • Prepare Planning Support Packages and manage the overall project cost target revision (CTR) budgets.
  • Develop and manage agreed payment schedules including milestone payments and prepare invoices accordingly.
  • Create project controls procedures as required by project specifications.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly schedule and cost reporting using Earned Value Management (EVM) to compare planned versus actual progress and to forecast future outcomes.
  • Monitor the cost and schedule impact of milestone achievements or delays and identify & report project critical path slippages to management.
  • Develop and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and corresponding cost and planning control structures.
  • Manage project budget setups, cost code allocations, approvals, budget control, and forecasting ensuring change requests are incorporated.
  • Assist project accountants with billing and cost-related inquiries.
  • Support the installation of baseline and forecast unit rates for assessing quantity variations.
  • Support earned value progress measurement and update project quantities reporting on any variances.
  • Maintain project S-Curves and histograms, create and update fully resourced, logic-linked Gantt charts per project/program requirements.
  • Monitor future resource needs and analyze workload at project/program level to proactively identify bottlenecks.
  • Identify schedule slippages and float erosion and propose remedial actions.
  • Coordinate issuance of project change orders and variations according to contract terms and manage the change management process including system tracking.
  • Attend client progress meetings and contribute to proposals, schedules, and CTR packs preparation.
  • Participate in cost and schedule risk analysis workshops and support risk management in alignment with local standards and processes.
  • Ensure adherence to Project Controls processes and procedures and liaise effectively with clients to deliver projects on quality, time, and budget requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • At least 15 years of industry experience, particularly in offshore downstream oil and gas sectors.
  • Proven experience holding a similar role within an engineering design company.
  • Experience working in the Middle East is considered advantageous.
