Principal Planner

Job Summary

The Principal Planner plays a crucial role in analyzing complex scheduling and planning issues within Project Controls. This senior specialist independently tackles intricate problems and may lead teams or projects. Expertise in planning and scheduling, especially within the Oil and Gas EPCIC sector, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze project schedules using advanced project management tools such as Primavera P6, Deltek Fuse & Risk, and Microsoft Project.
• Assist in establishing project baselines during initiation and setup phases.
• Lead detailed scope reviews involving multiple disciplines.
• Conduct thorough quality and integrity assessments of schedules.
• Validate physical progress data reported from Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
• Support project scheduling activities and coach junior planning staff as needed.
• Create and sustain logically linked Level 3 and Level 4 activity schedules for marine installation projects in Oil and Gas, including pipelines, subsea systems, platforms, and horizontal directional drilling, adhering to precedence flow standards and best practices.
• Generate workforce histograms and progress curves associated with schedules.
• Oversee sequencing of Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Construction, Installation, Hook-Up, Commissioning, and other critical operations to control the critical path and project timelines.
• Identify and accelerate delayed operations; evaluate schedule adjustments to accommodate unforeseen project conditions.
• Monitor schedule compliance and key performance indicators; analyze deviations relative to baseline data.
• Detect current and potential schedule delays, propose recovery actions, and analyze necessary schedule changes.
• Lead and execute initiatives that enhance project scheduling effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Business Management, or equivalent technical training and experience.
• Fluency in Chinese is required.
• 10 to 15 years’ experience in EPCIC onshore or offshore Oil and Gas or Power Generation projects.
• Preferred experience includes planning and scheduling for large LNG or topside fabrication projects.
• Proficient use of Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office suite, and advanced Excel functions such as dynamic tables, histograms, curves, and formulas.
• Capability to build and manage logically linked activity schedules based on precedence flow within EPCIC planning using industry best practices.
• Skill in generating and interpreting progress curves, histograms, variance reports, and critical path analyses.
• Ability to assess project performance, deviations, forecasting, and implement workarounds effectively.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with team members and management.
