Job Summary

The Principal NDT Technician plays a critical role in enhancing the efficiency of their team and related groups by effectively sharing insights and information regarding inspection processes. This role often operates independently following established inspection protocols and acts as a lead by organizing and guiding the work of team members. Additionally, the technician suggests enhancements to inspection procedures and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nondestructive testing (NDT) inspections of welds and materials using techniques such as Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Eddy Current Testing (ET), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Magnetic Ultrasonic Testing (MUT), ensuring compliance with project-specific NDT plans, procedures, codes, and contractual standards.
  • Perform examinations in line with authorized NDT protocols and globally recognized standards and specifications.
  • Assess inspection results to decide whether components meet acceptance criteria, approving or rejecting accordingly.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Inspectors to confirm completion of assigned inspection duties.
  • Document compliant work and report non-compliant findings requiring rectification.
  • Verify that corrected work has been inspected by Quality Inspectors before re-inspection using original NDT methods.
  • Maintain NDT equipment and calibration documentation to ensure readiness and accuracy.
  • Set up inspection equipment as needed prior to testing.
  • Create scan plans and configure systems based on relevant technique documentation.
  • Calibrate testing systems (both static and dynamic) before, during, and after inspections as a routine daily task.
  • Judge weld quality by referring to codes and acceptance criteria on a daily basis.
  • Generate thorough and precise inspection reports utilizing approved formats.
  • Ensure upkeep of all equipment before, during, and after activities.
  • Apply testing criteria following applicable standards and evaluate findings properly.
  • Contribute to developing innovative NDE inspection methods for complex structural geometries.
  • Support the training and professional development of team members.
  • Adhere strictly to ethical practices and safety guidelines consistent with professional standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess at least a high school diploma or a relevant degree.
  • Have a minimum of five years' experience in the specific NDE method they are qualified for, holding certifications such as ASNT, PCN, or CSWIP Level II.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experienced in relevant software tools for preparation, e.g., ES Beam tool.
  • Occupational qualifications under internationally acknowledged certification schemes (e.g., PCN, CSWIP, ASNT) are mandatory.
  • Competent at accurately evaluating exam results, assessing weld integrity, and reporting findings according to relevant codes and acceptance standards.
  • Capable of executing precise data collection throughout weld inspections regularly.
  • Skilled at interpreting codes and acceptance criteria as part of routine activities.
