Principal Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

WSP is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join the Naas office in Ireland. This position is available on both full-time and part-time bases. The role involves creating professional, technically sound reports and collaborating with clients and specialists across various sectors. You will contribute to delivering best-value services through efficient work practices, provide clear proposals to win new projects, manage project execution and budgets, and assist in allocating team resources effectively. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring and developing professional staff and supporting all aspects of project delivery, including liaising with clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality professional reports and coordinate with technical specialists and clients.
• Produce persuasive proposals aimed at securing new business opportunities.
• Manage and deliver projects efficiently, including robust financial control.
• Support resource management by allocating appropriate personnel to projects.
• Motivate, mentor, and develop the team’s professional capabilities.
• Engage in client relations, stakeholder consultations, quality assurance, and oversee specialist contributions.

Required Experience and Skills

• Expertise in geotechnical engineering fundamentals and consultancy experience with strong client and commercial understanding.
• Ability to work flexibly across project sizes, from small tasks to large programs.
• Chartered engineer status with significant experience post-qualification.
• Proven track record in managing geotechnical, engineering geology, and ground engineering projects with high-caliber reporting.
• Understanding client needs and shaping contract specifications accordingly.
• Experience leading delivery teams from project inception to construction phases.
• Excellent report writing and client communication skills.
• Competent in designing and supervising ground investigations, checking reports in line with Eurocode 7 Part 1.
• Familiarity with Eurocode 7 standards and ground investigation and construction contracts.
• Proficient with geotechnical software for civil engineering design, including foundation and retaining wall analyses, slope stability, and reinforced earthworks.
• Competence in critically reviewing and validating drawings, calculations, and reports prepared by others.
