Principal Full Stack Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Principal Full Stack Engineer to join a prominent US financial services company located in Galway. This role entails providing strong technical leadership within a product delivery team that is accountable for designing, developing, delivering, and supporting essential business applications and services.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

The successful candidate will blend deep technical knowledge with leadership qualities to promote engineering excellence. You will work closely with Engineering Delivery Managers, Product Managers, System Analysts, Quality Engineers, Architects, and fellow engineers to create scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable solutions. Ensuring teams deliver value efficiently and predictably is a key focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily technical activities within a product delivery team while collaborating with management and architects to balance delivery targets, technical improvements, operational stability, and maintainability.
• Provide guidance across engineering teams to influence technical decisions and ensure alignment with architectural standards.
• Partner with product and system analysts to define requirements and feasibility.
• Drive engineering best practices including quality assurance, testing strategies, and adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
• Identify and reduce technical debt, simplify architectures, and modernize legacy systems.
• Manage risks and lead incident resolution efforts ensuring adherence to security, performance, and supportability standards.
• Mentor engineers at various levels and nurture future technical leaders.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technology-related field.
• 8+ years of comprehensive software engineering background focused on enterprise applications.
• Proven aptitude for steering complex software solutions in large-scale environments.
• Experience as a technical team lead delivering business-critical applications.
• Skilled in driving consensus among engineers, product teams, architecture, and business stakeholders.
• Balanced approach towards feature delivery, technical debt management, platform enhancements, and operational priorities.
• Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted engineering tools is advantageous.

Technical Expertise

• Well-versed in modern application architecture and cloud-native design principles.
• Hands-on mastery of Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, Signals, and enterprise front-end architectures.
• Experience leading development in large Nx/monorepo environments.
• Proficiency with REST APIs and API-first design strategies.
• Competence in distributed systems, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), AWS services, observability, testing methodologies, and secure development.
• Establishing robust unit, integration, visual, and end-to-end testing best practices.

Delivery & Partnership

• Collaborate with Engineering Delivery Managers on technical feasibility and delivery risks.
• Engage early with roadmap planning and solution shaping activities.
• Work alongside Product and Systems Analysts to clarify scope and requirements.
• Communicate clear technical risks, trade-offs, and business implications to stakeholders.
• Build trust through transparent and well-articulated technical recommendations.

Mentoring and Continuous Improvement

• Coach engineers across all seniority levels.
• Support the growth of future technical leaders within the organization.
• Champion continuous improvements in engineering processes, tools, automation, and delivery methods.
• Advocate responsible AI-assisted engineering to boost quality and efficiency.
