Role Overview

The Principal Field Engineer acts as the technical champion during customer engagements, bridging the gap between clients, sales teams, and product groups. This position drives technical solution development from initial proof-of-concept to full adoption, facilitating AI-driven industrial applications and integration architectures.

Core Responsibilities

• Engage directly with clients to build trusted relationships and ensure solution alignment, transitioning strategies into functioning prototypes using Cognite Atlas AI™ and Cognite Data Fusion®.
• Lead the creation and implementation of innovative industrial AI agents and automation workflows leveraging the Atlas AI workbench and Cognite Flows.
• Collaborate with Account Executives to prioritize and technically lead strategic opportunities, delivering scalable, customized solutions alongside internal teams.
• Educate clients on Cognite’s platform offerings, supporting smooth adoption and maximizing solution value.
• Develop demos, reference architectures, and solution accelerators to support internal teams and customers.
• Represent Cognite’s technical expertise in client workshops, meetings, and briefings.
• Serve as the conduit between customers and the product team to translate client feedback into actionable requirements, ensuring technical solutions are scalable and aligned with company strategy.
• Provide ongoing market and technical insights from client interactions to inform product development and competitive positioning.
• Support sales and field engineering teams with technical strategy, architecture guidance, and use-case development.
• Act as a technical escalation resource for challenging client engagements.
• Organize and lead client workshops and technical sessions to ensure alignment and execution quality.
• Promote best practices and frameworks to strengthen Cognite’s leadership in industrial client solutions.
• Mentor and support fellow Field Engineers, sharing expertise and lessons learned.

Impact and Expertise Required

• Strong knowledge of industrial data workflows, OT/IT convergence, and scalable architecture design connecting operational and enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with cloud services and architectures from providers such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Excellent client engagement capabilities, building trusted partnerships with technology stakeholders and internal teams to co-create value-added solutions.
• Deep understanding of data platforms, APIs, integration techniques including pipelines, storage, and security in cloud or hybrid environments.
• Proven experience leading technical validations and accelerators demonstrating integrated solutions to partners and customers.
• Close collaboration history with product and engineering teams to influence product direction based on field feedback.
• Outstanding communication, presentation, and influencing skills able to convey complex technical ideas as clear business value to diverse audiences.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 7 years of extensive experience in solution architecture, field engineering, or technical presales roles, preferably within enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, or industrial software.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Desirable: background in energy sector disciplines such as petroleum, chemical, mechanical, or control systems engineering.
