Role Overview

The Principal Engineer, Product Security Champion role is responsible for leading product security efforts throughout the entire product lifecycle—from early definitions to release and ongoing support. This position is part of the core security enablement team and handles daily leadership and accountability for product security across programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the product security workstream and serve as the primary security authority for digital/mixed-signal chips, modules, subsystems, and software across the program lifecycle.
• Establish and maintain the product’s security posture, including defining security requirements, goals, and underlying assumptions.
• Ensure documentation and evidence exist to prove adherence to security assurance procedures during development.
• Serve as the liaison with Product Security Assurance teams and assigned Security Advisors to address development-phase security inquiries and assurance activities.
• Influence security requirements, architectural decisions, threat analyses, and choose security intellectual property components.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, software, and engineering teams to ensure security aligns with product scope, design, costs, schedule, and usage.
• Engage with customers when necessary to validate security objectives and assess threat assumptions.
• Plan and execute compliance efforts to meet standards, regulations, certifications, and Secure Development Life Cycle deliverables.
• Oversee secure development practices, verification, security provisioning, and post-release security support.
• Act as the main contact for handling security incidents after product launch and coordinate response actions.
• Ensure ongoing security accountability throughout the product lifecycle, including remediation, maintenance, and end-of-life activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of formal security training or certification.
• Approximately 10 years’ experience in secure development processes, product security implementation, and assurance within product programs complying with established standards.
• Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and industry security standards such as IEC62443, ISO21434, US FDA, and EU CRA.
• Deep knowledge of hardware System-on-Chip architectures, Secure Boot, hardware cryptography, and embedded software security, with at least 3 years in silicon SoC security design preferred.
• Strong technical foundation encompassing software, hardware, network, and cloud security in embedded or connected products.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams including product, architecture, software, hardware, quality, and assurance.

• Converts market, customer, and regulatory needs into actionable security requirements and strategic plans.
• Manages long-term security ownership, including maintaining evidence for compliance, certifications, and post-release maintenance.
• Comfortable operating within cross-functional product teams spanning architecture, implementation, verification, manufacturing, and operational support.
