Operating with a 'One Team Culture,' they foster diversity of thought and collaboration, with nearly 1,000 staff across the Asia Pacific region. The Ecology & Marine team is expanding due to increased renewables projects. This Principal role focuses on leading large terrestrial and freshwater ecology initiatives, strengthening client relationships, and mentoring fellow ecologists. While based primarily in Auckland, the position can be located at any SLR office in Aotearoa.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and submission of comprehensive service proposals for significant ecology projects, emphasizing terrestrial and freshwater environments.
• Build and enhance effective working relationships with clients and internal teams.
• Produce clearly articulated, technically sound, and high-quality ecological reports.
• Conduct fieldwork activities and coordinate appropriate project teams to ensure quality delivery.
• Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams across various sectors to successfully execute projects.

Candidate Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a degree in Ecology or a closely related discipline.
• Hold more than ten years’ consulting experience in Ecology with proven technical expertise in terrestrial and freshwater ecology.
• Demonstrated success in acquiring, leading, and managing ecological projects.
• Have an established professional network and a track record of winning new business opportunities as a distinct advantage.
• Skilled in preparing impact assessments and environmental risk evaluations.
• Familiarity with New Zealand’s environmental legislation, policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Strong written and oral communication abilities.
• Eligible to work in New Zealand, with citizenship or appropriate work rights.
• Maintain a clean driving record and hold a valid driver's license.
