Role Overview

As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you will join an interdisciplinary team dedicated to developing, building, and maintaining our online games. You will engage with a variety of modern technologies including a custom Java game engine, containerized PHP APIs, and infrastructure running on a distributed architecture within Google Cloud. Data is managed via MySQL, while DevOps tools include Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, Ansible, AWX, GitHub Actions, DataDog, Docker, Grafana, Sentry, SonarQube, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Linux VMs, Nginx, Redis, and Memcached. The frontend utilizes a stack with HTML5, WebGL, TypeScript, and Vue.js, targeting platforms such as desktops, Steam, iOS, and Android, with an ongoing transition to Unity-based frontends.

Your Mission

  • Lead and execute critical DevOps projects from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with company goals and driving technology choices.
  • Ensure production system reliability and scalability to meet high availability standards.
  • Perform detailed analysis and optimize system performance and traffic handling at both operating system and application layers.
  • Innovate by prototyping and implementing new tools to enhance system performance and developer workflows.
  • Maintain and enhance automation of development pipelines and improve workflows involving GitHub Actions, Helm, ArgoCD, Ansible, Docker, Webpack, and Fastlane.
  • Collaborate extensively with game development, community, product teams, and other studios in the Stillfront Group.
  • Continuously expand your expertise through conferences and training, sharing insights within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in IT maintenance, database and network architecture, systems integration, automation, and system administration focused on Debian/Linux environments.
  • Proven experience working with high-load, high-availability systems and implementing load optimization strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud, and infrastructure management tools like Terraform and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with modern build systems, technology stacks, and toolchains.
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn and experiment with emerging technologies.
  • Proficiency in Java or another advanced programming language.
  • Experience successfully delivering and operating at least one commercial software product or game.
  • Strong capability to clearly document and communicate technical designs and decisions.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Additional Advantageous Skills

  • A passion for video games.
  • Understanding of multiplayer PvP and online game development principles.
  • Experience working in agile environments with Scrum methodology.
