Overview

Wood is recruiting a Principal Civil & Structural Engineer to join the Doha office on a long-term appointment. This role is integral to delivering projects across Concept study, FEED, EPC and PMC stages, primarily supporting onshore and offshore oil and gas developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project execution ensuring adherence to safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives according to Wood and project procedures.
  • Carry out detailed calculations, create and verify civil engineering datasheets and drawings to define project civil requirements.
  • Design and analyze new and existing buildings, structures, foundations, infrastructure including drainage, roadways, and pavements typical in oil and gas facilities.
  • Design steel and concrete structures such as piperacks, buildings, equipment supports, pipe bridges, and other related structures.
  • Design and review various foundation types including isolated, combined, raft, dynamic, equipment, compressor, pump, and underground structures.
  • Perform adequacy checks on existing structures and foundations ensuring compliance and safety.
  • Operate and verify designs using Intergraph Smart Plant 3D modeling software and engineering tools like STAAD-Pro, Foundation 3D, Mat 3D.
  • Supervise junior civil engineers and potentially manage line reporting within the Qatar office.
  • Lead engineering roles when required including project estimation, planning and progress reporting.
  • Support recruitment, training and development of civil engineering personnel.
  • Stay current with technical advancements and incorporate innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with Wood and client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards to maintain high safety levels.
  • Recognize and manage commercial and technical risks within assigned projects, escalating major concerns appropriately.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the department and projects.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in civil engineering with a strong background in oil and gas sector.
  • Registration as a Grade A Engineer with the State of Qatar is mandatory; alternatively, Chartered Engineer status is acceptable.
  • Proven expertise in core civil engineering skills including design and project delivery on both onshore greenfield and brownfield oil and gas projects through various phases from Pre-FEED to EPC.
  • Self-driven and proactive with strong communication skills and organizational insight.
  • Ability to influence and impact colleagues positively and provide excellent customer service aligned with project and company goals.
  • Analytical thinker with innovative skills to apply new technologies effectively.
