Role Overview

Wood is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer to provide dedicated support to our projects in the Central & Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The role entails comprehensive cost estimating and management across all stages of mining projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed cost estimates covering exploration, development, extraction, processing, and reclamation phases.
  • Manage and regulate capital and operational expenses related to mining equipment, facilities, workforce, materials, and consumables to adhere to established budgets.
  • Perform financial analyses, including life-of-mine cost modeling, to evaluate the economic feasibility of projects and guide decision-making processes.
  • Assist with tender documentation formulation, bid assessment, and contract negotiations for mining equipment, services, and construction works to achieve optimal cost efficiency.
  • Monitor actual costs against budgets, analyze cost variances, and implement measures to avoid overspending.
  • Identify financial risks such as commodity price fluctuations and environmental compliance expenses, and develop contingency strategies accordingly.
  • Evaluate financial impacts of design changes, scope alterations, and unforeseen site conditions; oversee related change orders.
  • Prepare and present regular cost reports, forecasts, and status updates to relevant project stakeholders.
  • Support procurement by assessing supplier quotations, engaging in price negotiations, and promoting cost-effective sourcing.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental permit, reclamation, and regulatory compliance cost estimations and monitoring.
  • Collaborate closely with geologists, mining engineers, environmental experts, and project managers to ensure cost data accurately reflects project conditions.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related technical area.
  • Advanced academic qualifications such as a Master's degree or professional certifications in Mining Engineering, Cost Engineering, or Business Administration are desirable but not mandatory.
  • Certifications like Certified Cost Engineer (CCE), Certified Cost Professional (CCP) from AACE International, and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification are advantageous.
  • Additional certifications in risk or environmental management are considered a plus.
  • Deep understanding of cost estimation, project budgeting, mining operations, equipment, and relevant cost management software tools such as SAP, Primavera, or CostX.
  • Strong capability in financial and economic modeling, feasibility evaluation, and regulatory compliance related to mining.
  • Excellent analytical aptitude, problem-solving capabilities, decision-making skills, and proficiency in communication and report writing.
  • Ability to thrive in cross-functional teams with high integrity, precision, and professionalism.
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in cost estimation, cost control, and financial management specific to the mining industry with exposure to gold or similar resource extraction projects.
  • Experience handling large capital projects, including equipment procurement and infrastructure development.
