Job description
Role Overview
The Pricing Actuary will spearhead the design and execution of technically precise, commercially viable pricing strategies for the Personal Lines Motor insurance portfolio across UAE and Bahrain. Working closely with the underwriting, portfolio, finance, and risk management teams, this role ensures pricing aligns with regulatory mandates and Liva's corporate standards, driving impactful outcomes.
Key Duties
- Develop and apply robust pricing strategies utilizing technical models, market intelligence, and portfolio insights tailored to UAE and Bahrain's personal motor segment.
- Create, validate, and maintain generalized linear models (GLM) and machine learning burn cost pricing models with appropriate statistical distributions and minimum bias techniques.
- Overlay commercial and strategic perspectives onto technical outputs to finalize go-to-market pricing recommendations.
- Drive pricing and development initiatives for new products within the region.
- Continuously monitor market dynamics and portfolio behavior to keep pricing assumptions relevant and competitive.
- Ensure adherence to pricing governance frameworks, implementing quality assurance measures before pricing changes reach market deployment.
- Manage and implement pricing adjustments within pricing engines such as WTW Radar/Emblem or equivalents, coordinating channel-specific versioning, testing, and deployment.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate translation of pricing logic into production systems and lead system validation efforts.
- Develop and present monitoring reports and pricing performance updates to stakeholders, bridging technical results with business insights.
- Participate in research and continuous enhancement of pricing methodologies and tools.
- Support finance functions in reconciling expenses, commissions, reinsurances, and audit efforts related to claims and premiums to maintain data integrity.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Actuarial candidate status with 4 to 6 exams completed under SOA/CAS (USA) or IFoA (UK).
- Minimum five years of experience in actuarial pricing within property and casualty insurance, specifically personal motor pricing and modeling.
- Advanced analytical abilities and problem-solving skills for complex business challenges.
- Proficient in Excel macro programming.
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools including Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, or Alteryx is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of SAS for data analysis and model adaptation.
- Experience in Python and/or R programming for data and statistical analysis.
- Sound understanding of GLM and machine learning burn cost models, minimum bias methods, frequency and severity statistical distributions, and deterministic reserving practices.
- Experience with WTW software suite (Radar, Emblem) is a plus.
