Job description
Overview
BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Premises Officer to join the Facilities Management team serving schools in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. You will have a primary base at one school but will be expected to cover multiple sites across East Renfrewshire as necessary to manage holidays and absences. This is a year-round position working 52 weeks a year, with a 43-hour workweek involving varied shift patterns that include weekdays and one Saturday every three weeks. Participation in a Sunday overtime rota and other occasional overtime is also required. Appointment is conditional on successfully passing PVG Certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure overall security of the school premises including locking/unlocking buildings and setting/unsetting security systems.
- Use the EvoGO app to report and log tasks following help desk procedures.
- Hold keys and act as a key holder across multiple sites.
- Carry out regular security checks to identify potential risks and monitor fire safety equipment; assist with fire drills and alarm response.
- Engage with contractors and provide emergency access to facilities.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including decorating, plumbing tasks, unblocking drains, replacing fixtures, and ironmongery.
- Manage various maintenance duties as per scheduled plans to keep premises in good condition, including minor improvement works.
- Monitor mechanical and electrical systems and report issues accordingly.
- Conduct scheduled inspections of buildings, furniture, and grounds to identify repair needs.
- Maintain cleanliness through tasks such as graffiti removal, litter picking, and emergency cleaning as assigned.
- Coordinate deliveries and distribution within the site and manage facility lets and room setups.
- Oversee contractor performance and induction related to premises contracts, and assist in premises safety audits and risk assessments.
Training and Systems Familiarisation
- Receive training related to Water Hygiene, Fire Alarms, CCTV, Sprinklers, Disabled Refuge systems, Access Control, lighting systems, electrical trip testing, emergency lighting, scaffolding, and flooring.
- Complete corporate training including moving and handling, emergency first aid, code of conduct, modern slavery awareness, GDPR, legionella safety, and IOSH Working Safely certification.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in janitorial, site-keeping, or relevant trade work within similar environments.
- Competent in numeracy and literacy, with qualifications equivalent to GCSE Maths and English.
- Basic to good IT skills with a willingness to learn specialized software and equipment operation.
- Understanding of pertinent policies, practices, and legislation including health, safety and COSHH regulations.
- Ability to work independently without supervision and relate well to both children and adults.
- Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and willingness to support colleagues in their duties.
Additional Information
This position includes participation in an on-call rota approximately one week every 14 weeks. Shift patterns cover early mornings to late evenings Monday to Friday and some Saturday and Sunday hours. Appointment requires passing a PVG check ensuring safeguarding suitability.
