About the Role

Canada Post is seeking a dedicated Postmaster to serve as the community leader and primary representative of the postal service within the Rose Prairie area. Reporting to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, the Postmaster is tasked with promoting and selling postal products and services to local residents and businesses, ensuring excellent customer focus amidst competing priorities. This role involves supervising staff and administrating the post office to meet retail and delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with the community to communicate and promote Canada Post services and products.
  • Effectively sell postal products to the public and commercial clients.
  • Provide appropriate, centrally located premises within the community within 30 days of appointment.
  • Oversee post office operations aligned with retail hours and delivery schedules.
  • Manage postal revenues, assets, and value records carefully.
  • Maintain meticulous records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Assist with managing mail delivery routes efficiently.
  • Sort mail for postal boxes as required.
  • Supervise postal staff where applicable.
  • Ensure the post office is well-maintained, clean, and meets Canada Post standards.
  • Operate the post office with diligence and efficiency.

Candidate Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or an equivalent provincial certification, with experience in business administration advantageous.
  • Access to owned or leased premises that are suitable, central, and barrier-free, available at least one month prior to start date.
  • Experience in customer-facing roles within retail or service industries involving sales and cash handling.
  • Knowledge of postal regulations, processes, and service delivery methods.
  • Physical capability to lift mail containers up to 50 lbs, handle postal boxes, sort mail, and stand for long durations.

Premises Requirements

  • Premises must be fully accessible for persons with disabilities and subject to review and approval monthly before hiring.
  • Postmasters are responsible for expenses including rent or lease, heating, lighting, cleaning, routine maintenance, snow removal, municipal taxes, and necessary insurance coverages.
  • Appointments are governed under the provisions of the Canada Post Act.
  • Public service hours are determined by Canada Post and may vary as needed.

Additional Information

  • Transfer priority is given to Canada Post employee members of CPAA within the competition area.
  • Term employees with continuous CPAA membership can also apply per the collective agreement.
  • The role requires a commitment of 12 hours per week on a schedule of Monday and Friday from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  • A leasing allowance of $1930 per year is provided to offset operational costs of the post office.
  • An annual supplemental allowance may be paid to assist with premises-related expenses.
