About the Role

Join the Royal Mail team as a Postal Delivery Driver based at the Crawley Delivery Office (RH10 1AA) on a permanent contract. The position offers an hourly wage of £13.68 (paid monthly) with opportunities for paid overtime. The standard workweek comprises 37 hours, spread over 5 days within a 7-day cycle from Monday to Sunday with shifts running approximately from 11:25 to 19:30. New hires may qualify for a Welcome Bonus of up to £1,500, subject to terms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sorting letters and parcels at the delivery office
  • Delivering mail by van and on foot within the assigned local area
  • Building rapport with local customers
  • Working outdoors regardless of weather conditions

This role entails delivering a variety of important items including exam results, birthday cards, business orders, and other significant mail, often in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions and Schedule

  • The job requires physical endurance, including walking up to 12 miles or over 20,000 steps daily
  • Driving a Royal Mail van every day
  • Performing duties outdoors in all weather types
  • Managing large volumes of letters and parcels, especially during peak periods
  • Working under time-sensitive conditions

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Must hold a valid UK full manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, registered under current name and address
  • Ability and willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and successfully pass a driving assessment
  • Physically capable of walking long distances, climbing stairs and hills, and lifting mailbags over 10kg
  • Dependable, self-driven, and well-organized
  • Resilient in a busy work environment
  • Customer-oriented with pride in providing excellent service
  • Comfortable working independently and outdoors
