Porter - Porter Services

Position Summary

The Porter, reporting to the Assistant Manager, is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients, medications, laboratory specimens, equipment, and medical charts within the healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide transportation services for patients and medical items throughout the hospital.
• Ensure timely and safe delivery of medications, lab specimens, and equipment.

Candidate Profile

• Completion of Grade 12 or GED is mandatory.
• Previous experience in healthcare settings is required; prior portering experience is advantageous.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, healthcare personnel, demonstrating sensitivity, confidentiality, and compassion.
• Strong organizational abilities with an aptitude for adapting to changing priorities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
• Strict adherence to confidentiality concerning patient, staff, and institutional information.
• Basic computer literacy is considered a benefit.
• Current certification in WHMIS is required.
• Recent training and certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is a plus.
• Proficiency in additional languages, especially French, is an asset.

Work Schedule

• This is a permanent full-time position requiring 75 hours biweekly.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly wage ranges from $21.68 to $22.94.
• Eligible candidates may access benefits including health and dental coverage, travel insurance, long-term disability, life insurance, and a defined benefit pension plan.
