Job description
About the Role
At Bank of New Zealand (BNZ), we foster innovation in a collaborative and agile setting, focusing on creating advanced solutions that shape a better future. We champion wellbeing, flexibility, and offer generous leave options alongside ample opportunities for learning, career growth, and variety in daily work.
We are seeking a visionary and people-oriented Platform Manager to join our AI team, spearheading platforms that automate and modernize BNZ's operations. In this strategic role, you will lead an experienced technology team to drive platform strategy, engineering excellence, efficient operations, and future capability enhancements, applying strong software delivery and user-focused automation insights at an enterprise scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and communicate a clear platform strategy that aligns with BNZ's objectives and addresses stakeholder needs, steering technology teams toward focused and effective outcomes.
- Lead and manage Platform Owners, Engineering Leads, and Delivery Managers through all employee lifecycle stages—recruitment, onboarding, growth, retention, and offboarding—nurturing a culture grounded in trust, collaboration, and accountability.
- Develop and maintain a detailed roadmap prioritizing features and improvements to achieve key business goals benefiting customers and colleagues.
- Collaborate extensively with technology teams, architects, vendors, and stakeholders to build and maintain integrated platforms using sound knowledge of APIs, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and production delivery in both low-code and traditional development environments.
- Guide the safe and purposeful incorporation of AI and automation capabilities into platforms to enhance actual workflows rather than add superficial features.
- Leverage data analytics for informed decision-making that improves platform performance and supports teams in data-driven choices.
Success Indicators
Success will be measured by your leadership in achieving operational excellence, meeting customer and stakeholder expectations, and aligning platform development with bank strategies. Platforms under your oversight will be reliable, secure, up-to-date, and compliant, delivering tangible AI and automation benefits to users. Further, you will foster a high-trust, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
Candidate Profile and Skills Required
- Experience as a Software Product Owner, Product Manager, or Platform Owner with a focus on engineering, workflow, integration, or automation platforms.
- Strong leadership abilities to guide cross-functional teams in a dynamic agile environment, including influence without formal authority.
- Strategic mindset toward defining and aligning platform vision and business objectives.
- Robust technical foundation in software engineering principles and software development lifecycle practices, including APIs, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and production deployment, with an understanding of low-code alongside traditional coding environments.
- Practical knowledge of contemporary AI concepts relevant to workflow and automation.
- Hands-on leadership style collaborating directly with engineers, business analysts, and subject matter experts.
- Proficiency in managing senior enterprise stakeholders, fostering productive collaboration, and maturing partnership approaches across business units.
