Job description

Overview

Transport for NSW invites applications for the role of Plant Operator based in Hay, NSW. This permanent full-time position involves working with the Regional Maintenance team to help deliver essential road maintenance and infrastructure projects that benefit regional communities. Successful candidates will play a key role in maintaining a safe and dependable road network.

Key Duties

  • Operate Water Carts and various plant machinery to support road construction and upkeep tasks.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and perform basic machine maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Execute traffic management duties and adhere to safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
  • Keep accurate work records and documentation related to plant operation and project tasks.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to meet operational goals and address daily challenges in a field-based environment.
  • Expand plant operating expertise with opportunities for further professional development within Transport for NSW.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience operating heavy vehicles, Water Carts, or plant equipment in civil construction, road maintenance, or transport sectors.
  • Reliability and a strong safety focus when performing operational duties.
  • Competent in record-keeping, communication, and working cooperatively within a team.
  • Willingness to obtain traffic control certifications if not already held.

Required Qualifications and Certifications

  • Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence.
  • Valid Construction Industry White Card.
  • Capability to tow trailers as necessary.
  • Possession of, or willingness to obtain within three months: Traffic Controller Card (Implement Traffic Control Plan) and Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management qualification.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills to maintain accurate documentation and clear communication.
  • Compliance with any mandated licensing, ticketing, or certification as directed.
