Job description

Overview

This position focuses on developing strategic industry alliances and enhancing employment transition pathways across Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Polytechnics, and Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs) in Tamil Nadu. The role includes establishing employer connections, organizing industry interactions such as exposure visits, job fairs, and placement drives, and strengthening the skills of Placement Officers and implementation partners by means of training and mentorship.

Key Duties

  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with industries aligned to Tamil Nadu's key sectors including green technology and artificial intelligence, both at state and central government levels.
  • Engage with stakeholders from 132 ITIs in Tamil Nadu, with dedicated focus on Women ITIs and Tribal ITIs, to comprehend specific recruitment demands.
  • Document and replicate successful industry-ITI engagement practices such as roundtables to serve as templates for other regions.
  • Promote ongoing dialogue between institutes and industry partners beyond placements, covering co-curriculum development, guest lectures, mentoring, and organizing learner and educator exposure visits.
  • Assist with research to map trade-wise and regional industry demand in the state.
  • Support partners in executing and monitoring effective industry collaboration programs.
  • Empower Placement Officers with the knowledge and tools to manage placement activities.
  • Coordinate and conduct training sessions specially tailored for placement teams at Women and Tribal ITIs addressing their unique challenges.
  • Develop a calendar of placement activities annually, coordinating with regional and Directorate of Employment and Training (DET) teams.
  • Organize employer engagement events and job fairs across ITIs in Tamil Nadu.
  • Monitor progress via regular meetings and encourage placement officers to independently execute placement initiatives, promoting institutional ownership.
  • Design and implement alumni tracking mechanisms to capture post-program trajectories including employment, higher education, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship.
  • Deploy alumni tracking using various resources such as field data collectors, interns, and institutional partners.
  • Contribute to sessions and industry support for Women ITIs’ alumni and family engagement programs.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive employer database accessible to program partners.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage interns or fellows associated with Tamil Nadu’s placement programs, including defining objectives and ensuring HR compliance.
  • Prepare and submit necessary monthly and quarterly reports to donors and review committees punctually.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience: 4 to 6 years in placing fresh candidates within NGOs or technical education environments, with demonstrated liaising and networking skills with companies.
  • Proficient in client and company relations, with capabilities in establishing and developing effective employer engagements.
  • Experience training young adults for job readiness and on-the-job training opportunities.
  • Strong computer literacy including data analysis.
  • Flexible in work style with willingness to undertake travel and external visits.
  • Team player with strong negotiation and consultation skills within internal and external stakeholder groups.
