Job description

Role Overview

Become an integral member of our hospital pharmacy team where you will contribute to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy services. As a Pharmacy Technician, your responsibilities include assisting with the dispensing of medications, managing stock inventory, supporting medication administration on wards, handling patient inquiries, pharmacy manufacturing processes, and distribution tasks. Your role is crucial in ensuring patients receive the correct medications promptly and supporting seamless pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in medication dispensing and inventory control.
  • Provide support with medication services on hospital wards.
  • Respond effectively to patient medication-related enquiries.
  • Contribute to pharmacy manufacturing and distribution operations.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in tasks.
  • Strong communication abilities paired with excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and function effectively within a busy healthcare team.
  • Good organisational skills with capacity to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy operations, medication dispensing, or healthcare services is advantageous.

Employment Details

  • Multiple permanent positions available, including full time and part time day shifts working up to 76 hours per fortnight.
  • Start date as soon as possible with working hours negotiable.
  • Opportunity for subsequent similar vacancies for twelve months following advertising.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary ranges from $76,849 to $82,996 pro rata, plus a 12% employer superannuation contribution.
  • Salary scale follows the Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.
  • Access to salary packaging options including living expense benefits up to $9,010 and meal entertainment benefits of $2,650 per FBT year, subject to eligibility.
  • Eligible employees may participate in the Fitness Passport program offering access to over 40 fitness facilities in Tasmania at reduced rates.

Qualifications and Eligibility

  • Must possess or be actively pursuing Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance with a focus in hospital and community pharmacy assistance, or
  • Certificate III or IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support, or
  • An Associate Diploma or equivalent relevant qualification for a Pharmacy Technician role.
  • Additional relevant qualifications or pharmacy-related work experience are viewed favorably.

Additional Information

  • The role is located at one of Tasmania's main hospitals: Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, Mersey Community Hospital, North West Regional Hospital, or a Southern Region Virtual Care Hub.
  • Some roles may require after-hours on-call duties, weekend shifts, and extended hours.
  • Intrastate travel could be necessary depending on site allocations.
